The Philadelphia arts community and beyond are mourning the profound loss of Dito van Reigersberg, the visionary co-founder of the celebrated Pig Iron Theatre Company. News of his passing has sent waves of grief through the countless lives he touched as a performer, creator, and cherished friend.

A graduate of Swarthmore College, Dito was a foundational force in Pig Iron, performing in nearly all of its productions since its inception. His extraordinary talent was recognized with prestigious accolades, including OBIE Awards for his work in groundbreaking original pieces like *Hell Meets Henry Halfway* and *Chekhov Lizardbrain*. His artistic bravery and innovative spirit helped define Philadelphia’s experimental theatre scene.

To many, he was also the iconic, towering alter ego Martha Graham Cracker, a drag persona of legendary charisma and heart that showcased his incredible vocal prowess and boundless joy. Offstage, Dito, originally from Washington D.C. and a Langley High alum, built a life in Philadelphia with his husband, choreographer Matthew Neenan.

The loss is immeasurable. As described by those who knew him best, Dito was “the most talented, empathetic, kind, selfless amazing person.” His legacy is not only in the transformative work he created but in the warmth and generosity he extended to everyone.

In this time of sorrow, the family and the Pig Iron community have requested privacy. They have promised a future celebration of his remarkable life and contributions. Dito van Reigersberg’s light—a blend of fierce artistry and profound humanity—will continue to inspire and will be deeply missed.
